Founded on July 28, 1962, the independent nonprofit is staffed entirely by volunteers who respond to emergencies around the clock. In 2025, members answered more than 2,400 calls for assistance, including 9-1-1 emergencies, mutual aid to neighboring communities and coverage at community events.
The squad provides care at no cost to patients or taxpayers, saving Summit an estimated $2 million annually. Its work depends on community donations and the commitment of trained volunteers.
The proclamation recognized the squad’s role in protecting the health and safety of residents and visitors in Summit and surrounding communities. Fagan also acknowledged the junior members in attendance, highlighting the opportunity for young people to gain volunteer experience while serving their neighbors.
