Memory Cafes are designed as shared experiences, not simply support meetings. The format brings people together for conversation, activities and practical information while helping reduce the isolation and stigma that can accompany memory loss. The model began in the Netherlands in 1997 and has since spread to communities around the world.
At The Gathering Place, guests share a light, nutritious lunch along with music, gentle exercise and time to talk. The program is nonsectarian and welcomes all participants. It meets from noon to 2 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in Lile Hall at Christ Church, 561 Springfield Ave., Summit.
The next scheduled gathering is Wednesday, Oct. 7, followed by Nov. 4 and Dec. 4. Organizers ask attendees to RSVP so that enough lunch can be prepared. A suggested donation is $5 per person.
