Visual Arts Center Opens Fall Exhibitions Oct. 2

The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey will open three new exhibitions on Friday, Oct. 2, examining how artists use photographs, film, inherited objects and family archives to preserve and reconsider memory. The exhibitions will remain on view through Jan. 10, 2027, with an opening reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 2.

In the Main Gallery, *Precious & Temporary* brings together works by Nick D'Ornellas, Nazli Efe, Colby Lamson-Gordon, Tone Miller and Andina Marie Osorio. Working across photography, sculpture, video, textiles and installation, the artists draw from personal photographs, domestic objects, inherited customs and multigenerational archives. The exhibition considers how family histories are shaped across generations, geographies and cultures—and how the act of returning to an image or story can change its meaning.

The Mitzi and Warren Eisenberg Gallery will present *Steady Hands for Wandering Eyes*, an exhibition by filmmaker Chantal Feitosa-Desouza. Through interviews, sourced media, family history, collage and sound, Feitosa-Desouza explores diaspora, migration, ambiguous loss and reinvention. The work invites viewers to linger with stories that cannot be contained in a single image or headline.

Photographer Geoffrey Biddle's *Terms of Endearment* will be displayed in Marité and Joe Robinson Strolling Gallery I. The exhibition follows the many roles photography has played within Biddle's family over decades, using photographs made by his parents alongside images of his children and grandchildren. Artist Hilliary Gabryel will also debut her commissioned sculpture *Morning Glory* in the Stair-gazing Gallery, where it will remain on view through May 9, 2027.

The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey is located at 68 Elm St. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For details, visit artcenternj.org.
