Summit Community Programs Announces October Halloween Events

The City of Summit will offer a month of Halloween-themed community events for children, families and residents of all ages, beginning with the annual Haunted Hike on Friday, Oct. 9, at Martin’s Brook Park on Butler Parkway.

The Haunted Hike will include a less-scary session for younger children from 6 to 7 p.m. and a more intense “super scary” hike from 7 to 8 p.m. featuring costumed characters along the trail. Children in fourth grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult. A $5 donation is suggested at entry.

Scream on the Green follows on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Village Green, 356 Broad St. A family dance party starts at 6 p.m., followed by a dusk screening of *Halloweentown*. The evening will include bonfires and s’mores. Guests should bring blankets or chairs because seating will not be provided.

The city’s annual Halloween Parade, presented by the Department of Community Programs and the Summit Police Athletic League, will take place Saturday, Oct. 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. Participants should assemble at 25 Deforest Ave. by 2:45 p.m. before marching to the Village Green. Music, entertainment, snacks and a costume contest will follow, with prizes in categories including Scariest, Cutest, Best Group, Most Original and Best Overall.
