Summit Chorale Marks 9/11 Anniversary with Mozart Requiem

The Summit Chorale brought singers, instrumentalists and community members together in New Providence on Sept. 13 for a free 9/11 Memorial Concert and Sing-In featuring Mozart's *Requiem*.

The performance offered a musical setting for remembrance on the anniversary of the 2001 attacks. Images from the program show chorale members singing from the score alongside instrumentalists and a conductor, giving the memorial an intimate, participatory character rather than presenting it solely as a formal concert.

Mozart's *Requiem*, left unfinished at the composer's death and completed by others, has long been programmed for occasions of reflection and remembrance. Its large choral passages and dramatic contrasts made it a natural choice for a program intended to bring listeners together around a shared moment of memory.

For the Summit Chorale, the New Providence event followed a recent singing tour to Spain and Portugal. The group’s submission described the European travel as a local point of pride while framing the memorial concert as an opportunity for residents closer to home to participate in a collective musical observance.

The free concert and sing-in welcomed both regular chorale supporters and community members who wanted to mark the anniversary through music. By pairing professional and volunteer performers with an invitation to sing along, the program highlighted the role a community chorus can play beyond the stage: creating a place for neighbors to reflect, listen and take part together.
